Speaking of That Song They Always Use, this article is still an excellent and highly informative read.
Today, in contrast, one particular Leonard Cohen song is featured prominently in no less than three separate episodes of teen uberdrama The OC, and can be heard in at least twenty-four separate movies and TV episodes, almost always as the soundtrack to a montage of people being sad.
What I hope to show today is how, exactly, that happened to a song called “Hallelujah.”
I was just talking to Ali about this song the other day and that now it’s the go to song for television and movies. The last song that I can remember being used this much is Gary Jules version of “Mad World”.
“Hallelujah” was most recently in the Watchmen movie, and a television commercial for (I think) that stupid looking Jada Pinket Smith nurse show on TNT. I think I’ve heard it somewhere else recently, too.
